In a bid to bolster voter awareness and maximize people’s participation in the polling, SEWA of Adv. Yusuf Abrahani hosted a momentous event yesterday at Islam Gymkhana, Marine Lines, Mumbai. The event, attended by a diverse array of towering figures, social activists, and concerned citizens, aimed to underscore the importance of utilizing voting rights in shaping the nation’s future.

The program commences with the beautiful recitation of the Glorious Qur’an and a Nazm, followed by a series of speeches. All scholars emphasize the importance of exercising voting rights and urge attendees not to miss the opportunity during the polling day on the 20th of May in Mumbai. Highlighting the significance of each vote, they recount instances such as Dr. CP Joshi’s narrow loss in the 2008 assembly elections from Nathdwara by a single vote, and the similar fate of A R Krishnamurthy, son of the late veteran politician and former governor of Kerala, B Rachiah.

Maulana Mahmood Daryabadi urges full support for Arvind Sawant, Shiv Sena Candidate from Mumbai South, promising resolution of all community matters under his leadership.

Anees Ahmad, former Minister of Maharashtra, underscores the significance of every vote, citing his own defeat in the legislative assembly elections by a margin of just six votes. He also criticizes the ruling party, likening their actions to those of Adolf Hitler in terms of cruelty and brutality, and drawing parallels to Russia in their political tactics.

Maulana Burhanuddin Qasmi, Director of Markazul Ma’arif Mumbai, emphasizes three key points, asserting that the INDIA Alliance should not become overconfident. Instead, he advocates for meticulous orchestration in mobilizing the electorate on polling day and for dedicated grassroots efforts.

One lady speaker, the principal of Anjuman-e Islam School, elegantly implored the women participants to graciously delay their breakfast services for the male members of their family on the polling day, prioritizing the noble act of casting votes before indulging in other activities.

Central to the event was a stirring speech delivered by Arvind Sawant, the sitting MP and an INDIA Alliance candidate from South Mumbai. Sawant’s address resonated with the audience, addressing the pressing issues of unemployment, inflation, and the situation in Manipur. He articulated the significance of informed decision-making and the power of collective action in addressing these challenges and driving positive social changes for the Nation.

One of the key highlights of the gathering was the impassioned plea by various speakers, urging both Muslim and non-Muslim voters to exercise their franchise judiciously. Emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration, they advocated for the INDIA Alliance as a formidable alternative to the ruling NDA, led by BJP and Prime Minister Modi.

The event served as a platform for robust discussions, with participants engaging in dialogues about pertinent issues facing the nation. From socioeconomic disparities to communal harmony, the discourse underscored the pressing need for inclusive governance and equitable policies.

As the nation prepares for the fifth phase of elections on 20 May, the atmosphere in Mumbai City is charged with the spirit of civic duty and participation. The resounding message echoing from Islam Gymkhana reverberates across the country: every vote counts, and together the citizens can shape the destiny of the Nation.

The “Voter Awareness Program 2024 and Get Together” stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of democracy and the collective resolve to uphold the principles of justice, equality, and fraternity.
