Mumbai, October 30: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has issued a QR code to facilitate public participation in the Maharashtra government’s consultation on the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The initiative is being supported by the Federation of Maharashtra Muslim, with community representatives urging people to access the questionnaire, submit their responses and spread awareness about the process.
The Maharashtra government’s consultation portal contains 37 questions on the proposed UCC. Of these, 31 are objective questions that can be answered with Yes, No or No Comment, while the remaining six require brief written responses.
The QR code provides access to a short introductory video, suggested text for answering the written questions and a link to the government’s portal. Individuals can use the code to understand the questions and submit their responses online. Guidance for organisations will be provided separately at a later stage.

A meeting in this connection was held at the Mumbai Aman Committee on Wednesday, October 29, at 4 pm. Participants discussed ways to inform the public about the consultation and encourage wider participation.
The meeting’s participants appealed to community members to circulate the QR code widely, display it at mosques and use Friday sermons to raise awareness about the importance of submitting responses. They emphasised that people should make use of the opportunity to express their views through the official consultation process.
Maulana Mahmood Ahmed Khan Daryabadi observed that even if the present opposition to the proposed measure does not produce an immediate result, people’s responses will become part of the historical record. He expressed hope that future governments could review and reform laws introduced against public sentiment or through coercive means.

Those present included Maulana Mahmood Ahmed Khan Daryabadi, Mufti Saeedur Rahman Farooqi, Hafiz Iqbal Chunawala, Farid Shaikh, Maulana Zaheer Abbas Rizvi, Dr Azeemuddin, Abdul Haseeb Bhatkar and Shakir Shaikh, among others.
The participants called for a coordinated effort to ensure that the QR code reaches as many people as possible and that members of the public are encouraged to participate in the consultation.
