Al Mahad Ul Ali Al Islami Hyderabad Organises 1st Elocution Competition

The 1st Elocution Competition on 1st and 2nd September 2024 organized under the Co-curricular activities of Diploma in English Language and Literature (DELL) aimed to foster the oratory skills of students. Oratory skills are essential for clear communication, persuasion, and inspiring audiences. Elocution is not just about speaking well but also about the effective transmission of ideas, especially for students who are expected to be future leaders and ambassadors of Islamic teachings.
This competition also provides a platform for students to train themselves in a language that has become the lingua franca and to express their thoughts on pressing issues concerning the Muslim Ummah and the challenges it faces in today’s world.
The Elimination Round was held on 1st September 2024, where a total of 26 students from the 1st and 2nd years participated, with 7 students qualifying for the final round. The topics revolved around the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah globally. And also touched upon contemporary issues such as the decline of Islamic values and political, educational, and social challenges.

The Final Round took place on 2nd September 2024 and was judged by a distinguished panel: Dr. Sayyed Shafiuddin Aijaz (Director, Shangrila Group of Schools), Maulana Umer Abedeen Qasmi Madani (Deputy Director, Al Mahad, Hyderabad), and Dr. Mohd Azam Nadvi (Senior Lecturer, Al Mahad, Hyderabad). The judges were highly impressed with the students’ performances. They provided valuable suggestions, emphasizing the importance of oratory skills for students in Madaris. They also highlighted the laws, principles, and qualities a good orator needs, stressing that these skills are crucial for those who will be engaged in preaching and spreading Islamic teachings.
The final round was more competitive and intense. The judges evaluated the participants on their ability to engage the audience, the coherence of their arguments, and their command over the language. Md Abdul Qadir, Md Abdullah Chaudhari, and Md Riyaz, along with Shahid who shared the third prize, secured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes respectively. The remaining three finalists were given supplementary awards for their commendable performances. All participants received cash rewards, presented by the Director of the institution as a token of appreciation for their efforts and dedication.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Quran by Mohammad Danish, followed by a Naat recitation by Namoos Akber. The program was conducted by Maulana Mohd Anzar Qasmi, a faculty member of DELL. The announcement of the results was made by Maulana Arshad Qasmi, also a faculty member of DELL, while the distribution of awards was performed by Nazir Anwer Qasmi, Head of the Department at DELL. The competition was supported and attended by all the faculty members and students of Al Mahad.
The program concluded with an encouraging speech and Dua by the president of the event, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, President of AIMPB and Director of Al Mahad, Hyderabad. He praised the students for their efforts and emphasized the need for oratory skills in contemporary Islamic education. The event was a great success, achieving its goal of enhancing the students’ public speaking abilities and providing them with valuable feedback for further improvement.
