MMERC Mumbai Organises 1st English Elocution Competition

Mumbai: Markazul Ma’arif Education & Research Centre (MMERC), Mumbai, one of India’s most renowned institutions with a unique identity in imparting English language and literature to madrasa graduates, successfully organised the first English Elocution Competition of the academic year 2026–27 with great enthusiasm and splendour.

Eight participants, got qualified through the elimination round held on 27/96/2026, delivered eloquent speeches in English on various contemporary and significant topics. Their confidence, fluency, and presentation skills reflected the remarkable progress they had made in a short span of time.

The event of the competition was attended by several distinguished personalities from the city.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Qari Mohammad Badshah and English translation by Maulana Mahmood Ejaz. It was followed by a heartfelt Na’at in praise of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, beautifully presented by Maulana Naseebullah Khan.

Mufti Jasimuddin Qasmi, the moderator of the program introduced MMERC and highlighted the valuable contributions of its founder, Maulana Mohammad Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi, towards the educational and intellectual upliftment of the Muslim community. He also extended a warm welcome to the honoured guests.

The panel of judges includes three eminent personalities: Maulana Mohammad Aslam Javed Qasmi, Senior Lecturer at MMERC, Dr. Mohammad Isa Nadwi, former Professor at Tibbia College, Versova; and Engineer Mr. Osama Khalil Gauri.

The programme was presided over by Maulana Mohammad Atiqur Rahman Qasmi, Branch In-charge of MMERC. Professor Mohammad Hanif Shaikh, former Professor of Maharashtra College, attended as the Chief Guest, while Hafiz Iqbal Chunawala graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Following the speeches, the judges shared their valuable observations and advice with the participants. Dr. Isa Nadwi remarked that it is indeed a great blessing for madrasa graduates to gain admission to an institution like MMERC after graduation, where they can equip themselves with modern language skills essential for the contemporary world.

Appreciating the students’ excellent performance, Engineer Osama Gauri expressed his feedback , stating that delivering speeches in English of such a high standard after only two months of training was truly an extraordinary achievement.

In his address, Professor Mohammad Hanif Shaikh guided the participants on the importance of correct pronunciation.He emphasised that in public speaking, style of presentation and pronunciation often contribute more to an impactful speech than the content alone.

The third judge, Maulana Mohammad Aslam Javed Qasmi, praised the participants for their outstanding performances and announced the results. Among the eight finalists, Maulvi Mohammad Hamza Qasmi secured the first position, Maulvi Usuf Choudhary Qasmi obtained the second position, and Maulvi Abu Sufyan Qasmi achieved the third position.

Hafiz Iqbal Chunawala, Guest of Honour, highlighted the importance of selecting topics relevant to current affairs so that the realities of the world can be effectively conveyed to society. He observed that the speeches delivered during the competition clearly reflected this objective.

In his presidential address, Maulana Mohammad Atiqur Rahman Qasmi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the distinguished guests for their gracious presence. He highly appreciated the students’ impressive performances and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence through consistent effort and dedication.

The programme was concluded with a brief Dua led by Maulana Shahid Qasmi, Imam of the MMERC Mosque.

The successful organisation of the event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Maulana Jameel Ahmad Qasmi, Maulana Mohammad Salman Alam Qasmi, and the entire MMERC staff, whose sincere cooperation contributed significantly to the grand success of the programme.
