A delegation of Muslim women led by Mrs. Mamdooha Majid, Vice President of the All India Muslim Women Association (AIMWA), met the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday to submit a formal complaint against Bihar Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar over an incident that has sparked widespread concern among women across the country.

The delegation met the Vice Chairperson of the National Commission for Women and apprised her of the incident, terming it deeply offensive, inappropriate, and violative of women’s dignity. Mrs. Mamdooha Majid stated that the act was not merely an insult to Muslim women, but an affront to the dignity and safety of all women in India.

Addressing the Commission, she emphasized that women’s safety and dignity must remain the highest priority for all state governments, especially when the alleged act involves a person holding a constitutional position. She expressed grave concern that such incidents create fear, insecurity, and psychological distress among women—particularly Muslim women—thereby undermining their confidence to participate freely in public life.

“The implications of this incident go far beyond one individual. It sends a disturbing message that threatens the sense of security of women across the nation,” Mrs. Majid reportedly said during the meeting.

Members of the delegation, including Mrs. Zinath Mahtab, Mrs. Shadab Qamar, Dr. Shehla, and several other women representatives, were present and voiced their collective anguish. They stressed that any act compromising a woman’s personal dignity—especially in a public setting—must be dealt with firmly, irrespective of the stature of the individual involved.

The delegation urged the National Commission for Women to take serious cognizance of the matter, ensure accountability, and initiate appropriate action to uphold the constitutional rights of women, including their right to dignity, privacy, and freedom of belief.
Reaffirming their faith in constitutional institutions, the Muslim women representatives expressed hope that the NCW would intervene decisively to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to reassure women across India that their dignity and safety will be protected at all costs.
