Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Appeals to the Public to Record Their Stance Against the Waqf Amendment Bill-2024

EC News Desk

Mumbai, September 7: “Waqf properties belong to the Muslim community, and Muslims are their rightful custodians and protectors. Waqf is not just about property; it is an act of worship and ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah) that benefits the donor even after death. These assets are used to support the poor, orphans, widows, and the needy. They also fund the development and maintenance of educational institutions, hostels, hospitals, Inn (Musafir Khana), dargahs, madrasas, and masjids. The issue of Waqf is not just an individual or group matter—it is a religious obligation, and protecting Shariah is the responsibility of every Muslim.” These were the statements of the three-term formar Member of Parliament (MP) – Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, President of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), President of Jamiat Ulama of Assam, and a Member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), in a press release today.

Maulana Ajmal further highlighted that the Government of India recently introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha. However, due to strong opposition, the bill was not passed and referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), which has now invited public feedbacks. It is crucial to understand that this bill is entirely against the principles and objectives of Waqf. It poses a significant threat, as it could eventually strip Waqf properties off their Muslim ownership. Therefore, the AIMPLB and all national and justice-loving organizations are demanding that the Government should withdraw this bill outright. The Board has issued a QR code that allows people to easily submit their opinions to the JPC. This Code and link have been widely shared through newspapers and social media platforms to facilitate public participation.

Maulana Badruddin Ajmal reminded everyone that the deadline to submit feedback to the JPC is September 13, 2024, and only a few days are remaining. “I urge all Muslims to use the QR Code to make sure your voices are reached. Announcements should be made from masjids after every prayer, and copies should be distributed to every household,” he appealed.
