UK Based Scholar Maulana Muhammad Afzal Qasmi Addresses DELL Students

On Sunday, the 8th of September, 2024 a highly fruitful and enlightening online lecture was delivered by the renowned scholar Maulana Muhammad Afzal Qasmi the former teacher of Darul Uloom, Deoband and lecturer of Blackburn College, UK, on the topic of Importance of English Language for Ulama in Present Global Scenario.” The event was organized by Markazul Ma’arif Education & Research Center, Mumbai.

The students of MMERC and its eight affiliated institutions throughout the country attended it.

The Maulana Qasmi discussed the importance of a language, emphasizing that each language has its own unique status. He particularly focused on English language talking about its global significance as a lingua franca.

In addition to it, he said, “Around 400 million native speakers are found throughout the world, and in more than 53 countries this language is spoken officially.”

He adds that English language serves as a gateway to thousands of academic tools, research papers and books, making it indispensable for accessing contemporary scientific and philosophical knowledge.

Additionally, he pointed out that English allows people to convey the teachings of Islam effectively to the educated and intellectual audience removing the misconceptions spread by orientalists.

The lecture was followed by question and answer session. Students from various institutions asked significant questions related to the topic.

The honorable lecturer provided comprehensive answers to the queries from the students. One of the questions was about the possible scopes available for students after completing Diploma in English Language and Literature (DELL) course. In response, Maulana Muhammad Afzal Qasmi highlighted the multiple opportunities available for the young Ulama perusing DELL course. He mentioned that students could aspire to become eloquent orators, scholars or influential teachers by getting proficiency in English language.

Concluding the session, he advised the students to make best use of their times by diligently working on enhancing their reading, writing, listening and communication skills.

It is to note that Markazul Ma’arif Education and Research Centre, Mumbai teaches graduates of Madrasa a two year Diploma in English Language and literature course. The center was established by Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi in 1994. The speaker is one of the alumni of this institution.
