MMERC Holds Online Lecture on Opportunities for Madrasa Graduates in the AI Era

Mumbai, August 23, 2026: Markazul Ma’arif Education and Research Centre (MMERC), Mumbai, organised an online lecture on Sunday, August 23, on the topic “Madrasa Graduates in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era: Turning Knowledge into Opportunities.” The lecture commenced at 2:30 pm and witnessed the participation of hundreds of madrasa graduates, principals, MMERC and its affiliated institutions from across the country.

The programme was coordinated by Mufti Jaseemuddin Qasmi, Senior Lecturer at MMERC, who introduced the guest lecturer and commenced the programme with the recitation of the Glorious Qur’an, followed by a heartfelt Naat.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Tanveer Ikram, Professor, AI Expert and Technology Strategist, who introduced the participants to the rapidly developing field of Artificial Intelligence and its relevance to madrasa graduates. The session focused particularly on how traditional Islamic knowledge, language skills and emerging digital competencies can be combined to create new academic and professional opportunities.

The presentation began with an introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, explaining the basic concepts and their relationship with science, engineering and technology. AI was presented as a technology capable of learning from data, recognising patterns, understanding natural language, making predictions and adapting to new inputs.

A major portion of the lecture dealt with career opportunities for madrasa graduates in the AI era. The presentation highlighted a range of emerging and potential fields, including Online Islamic Teacher, Islamic Content Creator, Arabic–English Translator, Quran Researcher and Scholar, Islamic App Developer Assistant, Islamic SEO and Social Media Manager, AI Prompt Engineer for Islamic Content, Islamic Community Manager, Islamic Business Consultant and Islamic Podcast Producer.

The speaker also outlined the key skills that madrasa graduates should develop to benefit from these opportunities. These included English and Arabic proficiency, digital skills, AI literacy, communication skills and critical thinking. Participants were encouraged to develop practical knowledge of tools used for research, content creation, online teaching, design, translation and digital communication.

The presentation particularly emphasised the distinctive advantage possessed by madrasa graduates through the combination of Islamic knowledge, Arabic, English, digital skills, AI and communication. Rather than viewing Artificial Intelligence merely as a competitor, graduates were encouraged to learn how to work effectively with the technology and use it to enhance their existing knowledge and abilities.

A significant emphasis was also placed on the responsible use of AI in Islamic scholarship. The presentation stressed that AI should be treated as an assistant rather than an authority. While AI can generate fluent responses and assist with research and content preparation, it may also produce factual errors. Therefore, information relating to the Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, Fatwa and other scholarly matters must be verified against authoritative sources, with the scholar retaining responsibility for interpretation, judgment and publication. The session also included a segment on creating websites and presentation slides using AI tools.

The presentation was followed by an extensive Questions and Answers session, during which participants had the opportunity to seek clarification and discuss practical aspects of using AI for education, scholarship and career development.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Maulana M. Burhanuddin Qasmi, Director of MMERC, thanked the guest lecturer for the informative and valuable session. He expressed his commitment to remaining connected with Dr. Tanveer Ikram and working towards providing digital and AI skills training to Ulama, enabling them to effectively engage with emerging technologies and benefit from the opportunities of the AI era.
