2nd Elocution Competition Held at Markazul Ma’arif, Mumbai’

Markazul Ma’arif Education and Research Centre (MMERC), Mumbai—an institution renowned nationwide for imparting English language and literature education to madrasa graduates—hosted its second English Elocution Competition for the academic year 2025–26 with great zeal and decorum. Eight finalists, selected from earlier rounds, demonstrated their talent by delivering speeches in English on pressing and contemporary issues.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests. The program commenced with a recitation from the Glorious Qur’an, followed by a melodious na‘at in praise of Prophet Muhammad (saws). Conducting the proceedings, Maulana Mohammad Taukir Rahmani introduced the institution and highlighted invaluable services of its founder – Maulana Mohammad Badruddin Ajmal Al-Qasmi, towards the community and the nation. Mufti Jaseemuddin Qasmi, Coordinator of extracurricular activities, extended a warm welcome to the guests.

Three eminent personalities served as judges: Maulana Mohammad Burhanuddin Qasmi, Director of MMERC, author, and English poet; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rizwan Qasmi Nandvi of Anjuman-i Islam’s Dr. IJ Unani Medical College, Versova; and Retired Prof. Mohammad Hanif Shaikh of Maharashtra College.
The program was presided over by Maulana Mohammad Atiqur Rahman Qasmi, in-charge of MMERC, while Advocate Ravi Singh graced the event as the chief guest.

After series of the speeches, the judges shared their valuable suggestions with the participants. Prof. Dr. Rizwan Qasmi emphasized that madrasa graduates should pursue higher education at MMERC or similar institutions and then also try to obtain recognized degrees, while remaining firmly grounded in faith and becoming beneficial to society with a positive mindset. Prof. Mohammad Hanif highlighted the importance of pronunciation and delivery in public speaking, remarking that effective speeches owe more to style and diction than to content alone.

Maulana Mohammad Burhanuddin Qasmi praised the students’ performances and announced the results: Maulana Mohammad secured the first position, followed by Mohammad Qamarul Hussain Qasmi in second place, and Sabir Ahmad Qasmi in third.

Chief guest Advocate Ravi Singh observed that selecting topics in accordance with current affairs is vital to spread awareness in the world.
In his presidential address, Maulana Atiqur Rahman Qasmi expressed gratitude to the guests and lauded the students’ efforts. The program concluded with a brief supplication.

All the participants received attractive trophies along with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders. The success of the event owed much to the dedicated efforts of MMERC lecturers – Maulana Mohammad Aslam Javed Qasmi, Maulana Jameel Ahmad Qasmi, Maulana Mohammad Salman Alam, and other staff members.
