All India Muslim Personal Law Board Calls for Public Input on Waqf Amendment Bill 2024

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has issued a call for feedback on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, currently under review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). The Board stresses the importance of Muslim community participation in this matter, as Waqf properties are integral to the community’s heritage and religious obligations.

The AIMPLB highlights that India’s Constitution guarantees religious freedom and protection of minority rights, including the management of Waqf properties. Historically, both central and state governments have upheld these protections through established departments and specific laws aimed at preserving Waqf properties.

However, concerns have been raised regarding the current government’s intentions, as the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 in Parliament appears to jeopardize these protections. Although the government anticipated smooth passage of the bill, it faced strong opposition in Parliament, resulting in the bill being referred to the JPC.

The Board points out that the JPC has invited public opinions on the bill. While it was expected that feedback would be sought primarily from the Muslim community, the call for opinions has been extended to the general public, which the Board views as a misstep.

To counter this, the AIMPLB urges all individuals to use the QR code or click the link (https://tinyurl.com/is-no-waqf-amendment) provided by the Board to submit their feedback to the JPC. The Board encourages making this a widespread movement, raising awareness among relatives and the broader community. The AIMPLB’s General Secretary, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, expressed hope that with collective efforts and Allah’s guidance, the community can protect the integrity of Waqf properties and prevent any potential exploitation.
