Mumbai, August 30, 2024 — The “Tahreeke Auqaf” has filed a complaint with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, challenging the election of Sameer Kazi as Chairman of the Maharashtra State Waqf Board. The movement alleges that Kazi’s appointment violated the Waqf Act of 1995, as the election included an imbalance between elected and nominated members, with key vacancies unfilled for over three years.
Kazi is also under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for alleged illegal sales of Waqf properties, raising further concerns about his suitability for the role. The “Tahreeke Auqaf” is urging the government to remove Kazi, fill the board’s vacancies, and conduct a new, transparent election to restore trust and proper governance in the management of Waqf assets.
