Report: Mohammad Taukir Rahmani

Mumbai, June 8– Today, students and staff members from MMERC joined hands to clean Versova Beach early in the morning at 6:45 am. This cleanup event was part of the ongoing efforts to keep the beach clean, inspired by Adv Afroz Shah’s remarkable initiative.

Afroz Shah, a renowned lawyer from Bombay High Court, started the Versova Beach Cleanup initiative back in 2015. He led a big number of volunteers to clean the 1.5-mile beach, which was covered in trash.

Their hard work highlights the importance of taking care of our beaches. Due to his efforts, Adv Shah was honoured with the United Nations’ Champion of the Earth award in 2016.

Today’s event coincided with World Oceans Day, celebrated on June 8. This day reminds us of the vital role that oceans play in our lives. It promotes the importance of caring for the oceans, using resources wisely, and protecting marine life. Around the world, events focus on keeping oceans healthy for the future.

The participation of MMERC’s students and staff members and many other well-known colleges and companies, shows a strong community commitment to protecting our environment. Their efforts today not only contribute to a cleaner beaches but also spread awareness about the importance of preserving our oceans.
