A Translator is a Cultural Ambassador, Connects People From Different Backgrounds

Gold Medalist on translation Dr. Hifzur Rahman Qasmi conducted a week-long workshop on ‘Arts and Problems of Translation’ at MMERC, Mumbai.

A week-long workshop on the arts and problems of translation was conducted at Markazul Ma’arif Education and Research Centre (MMERC), Mumbai for the madrasa graduates. MMERC is a world famous institute for facilitating the two year Diploma in English Language and Literature (DELL) course for madrasa graduates to equip them with contemporary arts and skills of communication. To meet this end, MMERC also holds programs and workshops on different themes of contemporary relevance for its students from time to time.

This week-long workshop from 17 to 22 June, 2023 on translation has been among the MMERC’s cocurricular activities. It was resourced by the renowned translator and English trainer Dr. Hifzur Rahman Qasmi, Director of Eagle Academy Delhi (online & offline English learning platform), who earned Gold Medal in translation from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

At the end of the workshop a valedictory program was conducted at MMERC where the students demonstrated their skills and whatever they learned during this workshop with different diagrams and in different groups. The guests and dignitaries also expressed happiness and gave valuable comments.

A translator is a cultural ambassador who connects people from different cultural and lingual background. Translation has held paramount importance in human society since time immemorial, and still it does. It does not only help improve economic condition, but also it helps explore new ideas and concept related to different spheres of human life. These views were expressed by Maulana Mohammad Burhanuddin Qasmi in the valedictory session of the workshop.

Encouraging the students, Maulana Atiqur Rahman Qasmi applauded the achievements of students and training skill of the resource person.
Notably, apart from practical exercise, detailed discussions were made on definition of translation, issue of equivalence, types of translation, communication of meaning, intelligibility in translation, decoding and recording, assessment of translation, loss and gain, problems of translation, register of translation etc in this important meet of the students and the teachers.

The students enthusiastically attended the workshop and enjoyed learning the nuances of this field.
The valedictory session was also graced by Hafiz Iqbal Chunawala, Maulana Mohammad Shahid Khan and all the teachers and staffs of MMERC.

In this session Dr. Hifzur Rahman Qasmi acknowledged the historic services of MMERC. Notably Dr. Qasmi himself is an alumnus of MMERC. In his speech, he said, “I started my translation journey in MMERC and I immensely owe to this institute, as it has been key instrumental behind making me who I am today.”
