UpScrolled has arrived as a bold digital frontier. Developed by a dedicated team of Muslim engineers, this platform was born from an urgent objective: to counter the biased censorship and arbitrary “community standards” that frequently stifle content related to Islam, Muslims, and Palestine on Western-dominated platforms. It stands as a courageous alternative for voices long marginalized in a digital ecosystem that often proves intolerant of rational perspectives from Kabul, Tehran, Gaza, and beyond.
The necessity for such a platform is rooted in a systemic failure of global digital gatekeepers. For years, we have witnessed a one-sided narrative in Western media regarding geopolitical tensions, most notably the recent escalations between the U.S. and Iran. While Western outlets frame these conflicts through a lens of “security” or “containment,” they frequently sanitize the human cost or the legitimate sovereign concerns of the other side. This editorial bias is reinforced by Silicon Valley giants; platforms like X, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram have been documented systematically blocking or “shadow-banning” content from Gaza and Afghanistan. Under various disguises—such as preventing “incitement” or managing “sensitive content”—these platforms have effectively erased the testimonies of those living under siege, transforming tools for global connection into instruments of narrative control.
In India, the situation is equally dire. A significant portion of so-called mainstream media has effectively become a megaphone for the state, completely blacking out genuine safety and security issues faced by minorities. Instead of investigating the rising tide of hate speech or documenting the lived realities of marginalized communities, many national broadcasters choose to push a singular government narrative without question. By prioritizing state-sponsored optics over the reporting of discrimination and communal violence, the so-called mainstream press has abdicated its role as the fourth pillar of democracy.
Designed as an all-in-one social media hub, UpScrolled integrates the functionalities of X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. It is the brainchild of Issam Hijazi, a Palestine-born Australian Muslim technologist with a pedigree at global giants like IBM and Oracle. Launched in mid-2025, UpScrolled carries the ambitious promise of navigating modern digital hurdles while fostering a space for global users with diverse viewpoints. To ensure long-term resilience, the platform is built on a robust, decentralized architecture capable of supporting millions of concurrent users, ensuring that the infrastructure itself remains as unshakeable as the voices it hosts.
In an era where media consumption is digital-first, credible alternatives are a necessity. Traditional print and electronic media are receding; the “mainstream” is no longer found in bulky newspaper bundles or noisy television studios. Today, social or digital media is the mainstream. As our reliance on these digital town squares grows, so does the danger of the monopolies that govern them. Monopoly in any sphere—business, media, or geopolitics—is inherently unhealthy. We are already witnessing how power monopolies distort truth and destabilize global peace.
Genuine democracy thrives on a plurality of voices. True peace will only emerge when justice is universal and when even the most powerful are held accountable under international law.
