Humans are born inherently free. Freedom is an innate part of human nature, fundamental not only to their dignity but to their very existence. However, as time progressed and advancements unfolded, certain individuals intoxicated by power and wealth began to target this natural freedom. These so-called wise men, despite their claims of intelligence, were ignorant of the basic principles of humanity. They ruthlessly wielded their power over the weak and oppressed, chaining them in the shackles of slavery.
The origins of slavery trace back to the dark chapters of human history when those in power justified their superiority by stripping others of their freedom. This was not merely an insatiable hunger for control but a rebellion against the very nature of humanity, which perceives freedom as an essential element of life. Such physical and mental bondage did not just harm the individual but also weakened the social fabric.
Slavery manifested in various forms: sometimes as chains and human trade, other times as social and economic coercion. History bears witness to tyrannical regimes where rulers reduced their subjects to such despair that they were left to subsist on the bare minimum needed for survival. These rulers dismissed concepts like fair wages or shared labor and proclaimed themselves as Masters of life and death. This dehumanizing conduct persisted through generations, burdening humanity with the weight of enslavement.
It was in this dark era that the advent of the Benefactor of Humanity, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, emerged as a dawn of hope. His arrival was a beacon of light that uprooted the decayed principles of slavery. Through his words and deeds, he illuminated the world with the truth that freedom is intrinsic to human nature, and slavery is beneath human dignity. He not only advocated for the rights of the oppressed but also took practical steps to liberate slaves, inspiring his companions to participate in this noble cause. This revolution not only paved the way for the emancipation of slaves but also restored humanity to its rightful stature, where every individual has the right to live with dignity, honor, and equality.
The annals of history reflect the rise and fall of nations, revealing that only those nations triumphed that embraced intellectual and physical freedom as their ethos. Such nations not only recognized their self-worth but made its protection their foremost duty. In contrast, nations that became enslaved by indulgence, material wealth, and carnal desires consistently descended into ruin. Their fate was either obliteration or subjugation as mere tools for others. The flight of an eagle symbolizes the spirit of freedom, while the descent of a vulture signifies the burden of enslavement.
History also attests that nations steadfast in principles of self-respect, freedom, and dignity managed to preserve their identity even amidst adversity. Even when subdued by the tides of time, they seized opportunities to rise again, waving their flags high and reclaiming their grandeur. Their accomplishments are immortalized in history, testament to their unwavering love for freedom and resolve. This lesson teaches us that true honor lies in liberty, while enslavement only heralds decline.
The solution to humanity’s great dilemma lies in understanding and safeguarding the true essence of freedom. It is essential to heed the lessons of history, which affirm that freedom is a blessing and slavery is a curse, and only principles of justice, equality, and humanity can bridge the gap between them. Protecting freedom requires unwavering resolve, even if it means choosing the isolation of a boundless desert over the comfort of a compromised existence. For a life of dignity and freedom is the essence of true living.
