AIUDF Flags Irregularities in Electoral Roll Revision; CEO Assam Seeks Action as per Law

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has raised serious concerns over alleged anomalies and procedural irregularities in the ongoing Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls in Assam. In a detailed memorandum submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, the party alleged violations of the Electoral Registration Rules, 1960 and the Manual on Electoral Rolls, 2023, warning that such lapses could lead to large-scale disenfranchisement of genuine voters.

According to the AIUDF, in several areas a single individual has reportedly filed objections against hundreds of voters, often without personal knowledge or legitimate grounds. The party described such mass objections as mechanical and motivated, defeating the spirit of fair verification envisaged under electoral laws. The memorandum also pointed out that in many cases, notices issued in Form 14 by Electoral Registration Officers failed to mention the specific grounds of objection, thereby violating principles of natural justice and denying voters a meaningful opportunity to respond.

Responding to the memorandum, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam forwarded the AIUDF’s representation to all District Election Officers on January 30, directing them to peruse the matter carefully and take necessary action in accordance with the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Electoral Registration Rules, 1960, the Manual on Electoral Rolls, 2023, and instructions issued by the Election Commission of India from time to time.

The AIUDF has urged the Election authorities to intervene urgently to ensure transparency, fairness, and the protection of voting rights during the revision process.
